Meet Cernunos

Delight's latest piece, Cernunos, is one she's wanted to do for a very long time. He was the Celtic leader of the Wild Hunt and the Celtic God of all wild things. He's a 16x20 acrylic painting and will be available as soon as Delight finds the right frame for him!

All of Delight's pieces begin with a pencil sketch, sometimes a finished or unfinished concept. Once the sketch is finished, Delight will take a picture, which then goes into her computer to be adjusted so it's the right size for the canvas.

Next, she paints in the background and places (in this case) white transfer paper on the canvas. The print of the sketch goes over that and they are both taped down. Delight then traces her sketch onto the painted background. Here you can still see the lines of the transfer paper on his antlers and ivy crown.

For Cernunos, Delight transferred the border, crudely filled in the area, then started refining it. Here, you can see the knotwork is mostly refined, however she still felt the gold needed to be toned down.

The final piece has been subtly washed with greens and burnt sienna to tone down the bright gold. If you have any questions about the process or finished piece, Delight will be happy to answer them. Now all that's left to do is to find just the right frame for him!

Prints of Cernunos will be making their debut at the Dayton Celtic Festival in Dayton, Ohio this weekend! The festival runs from Friday, July 25th through Sunday, July 27th.
